The striker has suffered a “big contusion”
Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood continues to be assessed “day by day” ahead of tonight’s visit of Manchester United in the Premier League.
The striker, who has scored 18 goals in 29 Premier League games this season, was last week forced off during New Zealand's 3-0 win over New Calendonia with a suspected hip injury.
Wood underwent scans with his national team doctors before flying back to Forest. He subsequently sat out Forest’s penalty shootout win over Brighton to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.
Speaking after the game, Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo said of Wood’s injury: “[It’s] not good.
“Let's wait and see. It is going to be day by day, we have to assess him.
"It is all about the pain he has. It was a big impact on his hip and it is very painful. We have to assess him. We are gutted that Chris is not here with us.”
Nuno was back in front of reporters on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Manchester United in the Premier League.
Issuing another update on Wood, Nuno said: “He’s improving. He’s getting better day by day. We have to assess him day by day.
“[It’s] a big contusion so very painful. It’s all about him being pain-free and then getting back to fitness.”
