Manchester United are a much better team with Patrick Dorgu in it as compared to how the team looked before the Dane arrived at the club.

Ruben Amorim was being forced to play Diogo Dalot on the left and Noussair Mazraoui on the right and with both being traditional full-backs, they struggled to adjust to the demands of playing as wingbacks.

In the Portuguese’s system, a wingback is expected to hold the width and provide the attacking impetus down the flanks as there is no place for an out-and-out winger with the coach preferring attacking midfielders up front.

Both Dalot and Mazraoui are not exactly known for their attacking prowess, which is why the Red Devils splashed an initial £25 million to land the Dane.

Dorgu impressing everyone

And despite most of his teammates crumbling under pressure at the moment, the 20-year-old has been a breath of fresh air, bombing forward at will and using his pace and physicality to great effect.

His compatriot Christian Eriksen was asked about Dorgu’s qualities and what he brings to the table and the 33-year-old told club media that the former Lecce star’s biggest asset is his pace and his ability to go up and down the flank.

“I think you’ve seen already what he can bring. He’s an athletic full-back and a good player on the ball that likes to go forward. And yeah, he’s a very nice guy. There’s not many Danish guys who aren’t nice guys!

“I think he fits in well. He has to get used to everything in the Prem and at this club, but he’s in good hands and I think he’ll do really well.”

Amorim has already been impressed with what he has seen and so have the fans. A lot of new players often take time to adapt to their new surroundings, but not the Denmark international.

Adapted pretty quickly

In fact, his Goodison Park display highlighted how he does not let the hostile atmosphere faze him one bit and he was one of few who emerged from last Saturday’s clash with his reputation enhanced.

Eriksen was also proud of Dorgu because of his nationality. He became the eighth player from Denmark to represent the 20-time English league champions.

“I think there’s always been that [interest], more or less. For a few years you had a good [Peter] Schmeichel here at the club, so I think the connection with Danish people has always been close.

“But at the moment, of course, we’re three or four from Denmark and it’s a lot compared to what there has been before. At the same time, it means that Danish guys are good players and they can play at a big club and then yeah, just really to show the country [off].”
