Lazio have reportedly scheduled a meeting with Pedro and his agents as they aim to lock the veteran down with a new contract.

Pedro Defying Father Time

The Spaniard will be 38 in July, but his performances on the pitch hardly show it. The versatile attacker was decisive once again on Sunday, as he came off the bench to score twice against Inter Milan, forcing the Champions League finalists to settle for a draw which could prove deadly for their Scudetto hopes, as it allowed Napoli to preserve their top spot with one round remaining.

Player Ratings: Inter Milan 2-2 Lazio – Pedro Stuns San Siro Again

Pedro has now raised his tally to 10 league goals this season, hitting double figures for the first time since his time at Barcelona, particularly the 2013/14 season. Astonishingly, nine of the veteran’s 10 strikes came off the bench.

Lazio & Pedro Keen to Extend their Collaboration

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio are keen to maintain the services of the 2010 World Cup winner whose contract will expire at the end of the season. The Roman newspaper reveals that the two parties will hold a meeting in the coming days.

The New Contract Details

The Biancocelesti are expecting to offer the veteran a renewal until June 2026, which could include an option for another year. As for the salary, Pedro currently earns €2.2 million per year, so it remains to be seen if the management will try to slightly reduce it, especially with the club likely to miss out on the Champions League and its lucrative prize money.

Claudio Lotito Aims a Dig at Roma

On a related note, Lazio president Claudio Lotito took the opportunity to take a swipe at Roma who released Pedro after one year at Trigoria, which allowed him to join Lazio in the summer of 2021. These are the patron’s words as reported by Il Messaggero (via Calciomercato).

I don’t understand how Roma let such a great player slip away. He will be the one to decide whether to continue or not.

Post-Playing Role at Lazio?

Pedro has now cemented himself as an idol at Lazio, and he could linger at the club even beyond his playing career, either in a coaching role or as a director.
