Finishing is the primary reason why Inter Milan have scored twice as many goals as Roma in Serie A so far this season.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Tomorrow evening, Inter take on Roma in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri go into the match as the team with the most prolific attack in the division after seven matches. They have scored a total of sixteen goals in the league so far.

That goes some way to explaining why Inter are second in the table despite a mediocre defensive record.

And similarly, Roma’s relatively meagre eight goals is a big part of why they’ve been unable to get themselves out of midtable so far in the campaign.

And Inter’s attack isn’t just the most prolific in Serie A. It is right up there in Europe as well.

The Nerazzurri find themselves well behind Barcelona, who have scored a whopping 28 goals.

But otherwise it’s just Paris Saint-Germain (21), Bayern (20), Real Madrid (19), Manchester City (17), and Villarreal (17) to have scored more goals in the Nerazzurri in Europe’s top five leagues.

The odd thing in contrasting Inter and Roma’s respective goal totals, however, is that Roma’s attack has laid on the goalscoring chances just as much as Inter.

In fact, the Giallorossi have taken slightly more shots in Serie A than Inter so far.

Roma have taken 118 shots at goal so far this season. 34 of these have been on target.

And Inter, despite having found the back of the net twice as many times as Roma, have actually taken fewer shorts.

The Nerazzurri have taken 115 shots so far in Serie A.

36 of Inter’s shots have been on target, though, slightly better than Roma’s.

But the real explanation for the disparity, the Corriere argues, is simply that Inter have been far more clinical.
