Even though many fans have given up hope on AC Milan getting a top four spot, Sergio Conceicao still believes that the comeback is possible.
As Calciomercato.com report, Conceicao is convinced that the come-from-behind win against Lecce could be the game to turn Milan’s season around. The coach believes Christian Pulisic’s winner has given birth to a new team, united and convinced like he has never seen since he took over.
The test for his theory will come against Cesc Fabregas’ Como this evening. In the reverse fixture, the Lariani made the Rossoneri sweat by taking the lead before Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao secured Conceicao’s first league win.
When asked specifically in his press conference, Conceicao made it clear that he still believes in the objective of fourth place with a corresponding qualification to the next edition Champions League.
The former Porto boss has been pleased by the purpose shown by the players which has become stronger day after day, training session after training session. On the other hand, top four rivals like Juventus (0-4 vs. Atalanta) and Roma (out of the Europa League) have suffered setbacks.
More Stories / The Match
Milan are currently ninth in the standings with 44 points, eight less than fourth-placed Juventus. The Champions League mission is very complicated because, paradoxically, not even an immaculate run of 30 points in the last 10 games would be enough.
After tonight’s game against Como and the international break will be the away trip to Napoli, then a Coppa Italia derby against Inter over two legs with Fiorentina at home in between. On April 13th comes an away game against Udinese, a tough test on paper given they are pushing for Europe.
One week after that, Milan will be in action at San Siro against title challengers Atalanta, then comes Venezia at home on April 27th and Genoa away on May 4th. Seven days later is Bologna at home, then Roma away on May 18th and closing with Monza at home on May 25th.
There is a small hope, now it’s up to Conceicao’s Milan to keep it alive until the end by amassing a streak of victories not yet seen this season.
