AC Milan have shown that they know how to engineer a comeback under Sergio Conceicao, but there are still so many issues to fix.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) recalls that victories that have already been claimed under the new coach from a losing position. It started with Juventus and Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana, then continued against Como and Parma in the league.
The paper adds that Conceiçao’s new Milan knows how to win almost only by coming from behind (the only other win was against Girona, 1-0). Yesterday against the Gialloblu, at the end of an unwatchable match, the Rossoneri took home three very important points.
In doing so they get closer to fourth place, also taking advantage of the results of the other teams they are in the running with. Juventus lost, Bologna drew and Lazio were defeated at home by Fiorentina, so they remain at +5, but the Rossoneri have a game in hand against Bologna.
More Stories / The Match
Milan have once again shown great character and that it is a team that never gives up until the end of the match, but it is clear that there are still many problems to solve.
The team are making too many defensive errors, the attackers are struggling to score and a style of play is lacking. Conceiçao is working hard to improve things, but there isn’t much time to work with games coming thick and fast.
He is the first to know that on Wednesday in the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb and then on Sunday in the return league derby against Inter a lot more will be needed, otherwise a win will not be forthcoming.
At the end there was then a moment of very high tension between the Milan coach and Davide Calabria, so much so that other players and members of the staff had to intervene to separate the two. In the dressing room, peace was then made between the two.
Conceiçao is working hard to solve the problems of his Milan, but yesterday in the post-match he asked the club for a hand again, in the hope that other reinforcements may arrive after Kyle Walker.
“What do I want from the window? Let’s see. I’m not bluffing, but I’m focused on the players we have. After Juve I said that something more was needed and I won’t back down. So I hope that something more can arrive, otherwise we’ll go to war with what we have,” he said.
The big target is still Santiago Gimenez, the Feyenoord centre-forward for whom the CEO Furlani is formulating a relaunch after the rejection of the first offer of €30m.
The Portuguese would also not mind having a new addition in the middle of the field, but it is unlikely to arrive at present with the end of the window just a few days away.
