Rasmus Hojlund on Thursday night scored the winner for Denmark against Portugal and hit Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark goal celebration right in front of his former Manchester United team-mate.
Hojlund came off the bench to settle the first leg of tonight’s Nations League quarter-final at the Parken Stadium, with Denmark good value for their win.
Christian Eriksen, also of United, saw a first-half penalty saved by Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa, and also saw a goal-bound shot cleared by another United team-mate, Diogo Dalot.
Costa was called upon time and again to deny Denmark, but there was little he could do about Denmark's goal as Eriksen picked out Andreas Skov Olsen to square the ball for Hojlund to steer it home 12 minutes from time.
It was the second goal in as many goals for Hojlund, who also opened the scoring for United against Leicester at the weekend. On that occasion, he celebrated with a ‘cut-throat’ motion, but back in Denmark he opted to mimic Ronaldo’s own.

Prior to his goal at the King Power Stadium, Hojlund had gone 21 games without scoring. Denmark will need him to keep up his moment for Sunday’s quarter-final second leg in Lisbon.
