Liverpool are reeling from the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be leaving the club this summer. After 20 years of being a Red, the homegrown right-back has made it known that he now intends to seek pastures new.
The 26-year-old is now widely tipped to join Real Madrid - .
The Reds have got Conor Bradley waiting in the wings and ready to take over first-team duties on a full-time basis from Trent.
Bradley, 21, has now played over 50 times for the first team - under Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot - and rarely let his side down. He will have to overcome recent injury issues however if he is to star long-term at Anfield.
In the meantime, Liverpool have been linked with several right-back targets - including Vanderson, Ola Aina and Wesley Franca. Sporting director Richard Hughes is believed to be seeking a senior option in the position in order to ensure a smooth transition.
And one name who has been in the frame over the past year or so has been Jeremie Frimpong.
The 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star was a Bundesliga title winner under Xabi Alonso last season but stayed put despite significant transfer interest.
He is likely to leave the BayArena this summer however and inevitably Liverpool are top of the list of suitors.
The Dutch international is not a natural right back, playing instead as a right-wing back, raising the intriguing question of how he might be used at Anfield if he were to arrive.
And it’s not a remote possibility either with The Athletic’s David Ornstein confirming the Reds’ interest in Frimpong, who was raised in the Manchester City academy.
Moreover, he revealed a tantalising release clause of only €35m for Frimpong - a fraction of what he would be worth on the open market.
“If they went for something different, something more multifaceted, there are players potentially on the market like a Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen,” he is reported to have told NBC Sports.
“He has a €35 million (£30m) release clause, something in the region of that, as I understand it. I also believe that he would be keen on a move to Liverpool, if they decide to go down that route.
“They will have other options as well, but Frimpong has been mentioned in a number of reports so far.”
