Liverpool’s dominant 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium reinforced their title credentials, with Arne Slot’s men showcasing both defensive resilience and attacking fluency. While Mohamed Salah stole the headlines with another decisive display, The Daily Red podcast from Anfield Index provided an in-depth analysis of the match, with Dave Davis and Grizz Khan particularly impressed by Ryan Gravenberch’s performance.
Ryan Gravenberch has been a player of intrigue since his arrival at Liverpool, and against Bournemouth, he delivered what Dave Davis described as a “sensational” performance. “You couldn’t get the ball off this guy in a phone box,” he said, underlining Gravenberch’s remarkable composure under pressure.
The Dutchman’s ability to retain possession and navigate tight spaces was a key factor in Liverpool’s dominance. “His touch, his poise, his control—he takes the ball under pressure, he’s strong, and he’s showing his strength now,” Davis explained. His combination of physical presence and technical skill allowed Liverpool to dictate play in midfield, frustrating Bournemouth’s attempts to disrupt their rhythm.

It wasn’t just Gravenberch’s elegance on the ball that caught the eye. His defensive work, often a point of discussion, was praised by Grizz Khan, who highlighted his tactical intelligence. “His off-the-ball work and the intelligence he showed in covering Trent or helping Trent—I should say, not covering, helping Trent—against the mad, crazy, energetic Kerkez was fantastic,” Grizz remarked.
With Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez providing constant width and energy down the left flank, Liverpool needed their midfielders to track back effectively. Gravenberch executed this role seamlessly, blending defensive awareness with his natural attacking instincts. “He’s playing like a 6ft 2 player now, 6ft 3,” Davis added, referencing the midfielder’s growing physicality.
Gravenberch’s influence was also reflected in the numbers. “That 93% pass completion is very impressive,” Grizz pointed out. “And the reason why that’s very impressive is because Bournemouth played very good, and their two midfielders were very, very industrious.”
Grizz named Tyler Adams and Ryan Christie as Bournemouth’s standout midfielders, noting their work rate and pressing intensity. Yet, despite their efforts, Gravenberch maintained control. “To be able to complete 93% of your passes in that hotbed of midfield yesterday— it was very competitive,” he added.
The statistics reinforced what was clear to those watching—Gravenberch was in control. His ability to win duels, retain possession, and keep Liverpool moving forward made him one of the standout players on the pitch.
Liverpool’s win at Bournemouth was about more than just three points—it was a statement to their title rivals. “Bournemouth on any other day beat probably every other team in the league on that day,” Grizz stated. “They didn’t play bad—they were very good in fact. We were just better.”
With Arsenal and Manchester City chasing, Liverpool needed a performance that would reinforce their position at the summit. “In the end, our leaders, our big boys, stood up and were counted,” Davis concluded.
Gravenberch, once a player on the fringes, has now placed himself firmly in Slot’s plans. If he continues at this level, Liverpool’s midfield—already a key strength—could become even more formidable. With a nine-point gap at the top of the Premier League, the Reds’ title ambitions remain firmly on track.
