The North London club have competed for the league in the last few seasons but they have stumbled at the final stage.

Arteta is now ready to invest once again in his squad to take his team over the line next season.

The Premier League giants are targeting a move for a striker as well as a midfielder. They have have Benjamin Sesko their number one transfer target for the summer.

As far as the midfield position is concerned, Arteta’s team want to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Madrid.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has now provided an encouraging update about Arsenal’s pursuit of the Spanish midfielder.

“I’d say that the Zubimendi one is almost definitely going to happen to Arsenal. I just wonder when you look back now to the summer transfer window, Liverpool were all set to sign Martin Zubimendi, and then there was a late change of heart. It’s not been confirmed to anyone, but seeing now, a year later, he’s very, very likely to join Arsenal, was there a late intervention by Arsenal in the summer?” Sheth said on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast, as reported by TBR Football.

“You’d have to ask that question because he looked all set to go to Liverpool. It looked like it was a done deal. The deal was agreed.

“It was him who changed his mind in the last minute. And you just wonder whether Arsenal had come in and said, look, we can’t bring you in now, we desperately want you. Mikel Arteta knows him really well.

“And maybe he just thought, I’ll just bide my time for the time being. I actually want to go to Arsenal. Maybe he thought that.”

Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal?

The Sky Sports man has suggested that perhaps Zubimendi rejected a move last summer to Anfield because he wanted to join the Gunners in the future.

He would be a fine addition to Arteta’s team and he would get reunited with former Real Sociedad teammate Mikel Merino at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners face competition from Real Madrid to sign the Euro 2024 winner but it appears like they are currently leading the race to sign Zubimendi.

With Jorginho and Thomas Partey both facing an uncertain future at the club due to their contracts expiring at the end of the season, Zubimendi would be the ideal signing for the Premier League side.
