Jürgen Klopp shocked the football world when he announced a return to football, but his return won’t be on the touchline. Red Bull confirmed that the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool head coach would be their new Global Head of Soccer.

As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Klopp will earn around €10m-€12m per year as the new Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull. With a long-term contract, his role will include advising all Red Bull clubs: Leipzig, Salzburg, New York and Bragantino on coaching matters, philosophy, player development as well as transfers surrounding players and coaches.

Plettenberg further adds that although there is no release clause, there is an exit option that has been ‘verbally agreed’ by all parties. This perhaps comes due to the fact that the role of German national team head coach still remains an interesting proposition for the former head coach.

But with Julian Nagelsmann in the helm until after the 2026 World Cup, and possibly beyond, this is a long-term project for Klopp.

Is Jürgen Klopp’s move to Red Bull a sad day for football?

As reported by Get German Football News’ Jamie Allen, there are some question marks on Klopp’s return to football.

He is seen to most as a figure who would rebel against the idea of multi-club ownership and every uncertainty that it brings to the world of football.

However, having now taken up the role of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, is this a sign of the times? Are the likes of the Red Bull and City Football Group business models the ‘new normal’ in a sport already clouded under a lack of morals and suspicion of corruption?
