‘Don’t forget’ – Hansi Flick hails unsung Barcelona hero after Real Madrid | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has moved to reveal his appreciation for something of an unsung hero in his defensive ranks.

The player in question? Iñigo Martínez.

Stopper Iñigo, for his part, was back in from the off on Saturday, as Barcelona made the trip to the Spanish capital for a showdown with arch rivals Real Madrid.

And, en route to an eventual 4-0 Blaugrana rout, the former Athletic Club man shone bright once more.

Dealing expertly with the attacking threat posed by Real’s star-studded frontline, Iñigo continued to act as a source of consistent reliability and composure at the heart of the visitors’ defence.

The 33-year-old even managed to chip in with an assist for Barca’s 4th of the evening.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the Santiago Bernabéu, manager Hansi Flick was therefore eager to ensure that Iñigo’s efforts were aptly recognised:

“The defence was really good as the rest of the team but don’t forget one player. That player is Iñigo Martínez. He was excellent once again.”
