Borussia Dortmund have contacted Nico Schlotterbeck's management about extending his contract, according to Bild.
It was previously thought that the first round of negotiations would take place in the summer, but Dortmund are acting now in the hope of extending Schlotterbeck's contract "very quickly", the report claims.
"We have known each other for a long time, appreciate each other and have a great relationship of trust. Nico knows that. Everything else will be discussed internally," sporting director Sebastian Kehl is quoted as saying.
“I’m really happy to be here and know what it means to play for the club. BVB remains my first point of contact," Schlotterbeck told Sky Germany.
“In the summer, we’ll sit down with the club’s management and my family and discuss the plan for the next few years.
“I hope we can achieve something good. This club is capable of much more.
“Playing internationally is what defines this club, because it’s become a habit over the years.
“But I also have to look at what I’ve done to ensure we’re not in a position where we are talking about the top four. I want to play internationally, preferably with BVB,” he added.
The likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be keeping an eye on the German international.
