Manchester United finally relieved Erik ten Hag of his duties as manager of the club after a 1-2 Premier League defeat to West Ham United at the end of October.

It was a decision that INEOS simply had to make after an awful start to the season which left United languishing in the bottom half of the table and well off the pace in the Europa League.

Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim has since been appointed as the permanent successor to Ten Hag after Ruud van Nistelrooy steadied the ship for a handful of games.

The Dutch coach was reportedly ‘devastated’ at losing his job at Old Trafford after making the North West his home for the last two-and-a-half years.

As reported by The Daily Mail, the 54-year-old has since returned to the city, enjoying a meal before returning to their Manchester mansion.

Ten Hag was spotted with his wife Bianca at Italian establishment Piccolino in Hale Village, a regular spot for the former manager during his time in the city.

However, the ultimate reason for the pair’s return was to clear out their possessions from their nearby mansion as they prepare to move onto a new chapter in their lives.

Despite the poor run of form that eventually cost him his job, the Dutchman left United after securing back-to-back trophies including an unforgettable FA Cup success against Manchester City in May.

Ten Hag was tipped for an almost immediate return to the game, with Italian giants Roma reportedly hoping to lure him to Serie A.

However, talks broke down and the former Ajax man remains a free agent and still on the lookout for his next permanent position.

In the meantime, successor Amorim has been getting his feet firmly into Ten Hag’s shoes as he attempts to undo the mess caused by some sloppy displays since the start of the campaign.

Amorim’s first assignment is a trip to newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday where the new head coach will be desperate to get his tenure off to the best possible start.
