Lazio have been pitted against Czech side Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League Round of 16, thus averting a meeting with Roma.

The Biancocelesti had a sensational group-stage campaign, finishing on top of the 36-table after successfully overcoming some steep challenges, beating the likes of Porto, Ajax and Real Sociedad. Hence, they booked a direct spot in the Round of 16 while awaiting the results of the play-off stage before finding out the identity of their next European opponents.

Lazio to Play Viktoria Plzen in Europa League Round of 16

Marco Baroni’s men had two choices, and one of them was a sensational clash against their arch-rivals Roma who managed to beat Porto in the play-off round. Nevertheless, the draw kept the two Italian capital sides apart. Hence, Lazio will take on Viktoria Plzen, while the Giallorossi were pitted against Athletic Bilbao who were the runners-up in the group-stage table.

The Aquile will thus travel to the Czech Republic for the first leg which will take place on March 6th before hosting the decisive return fixture at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on March 13th.
