Leeds United are planning to bid for Southampton striker Cameron Archer again

Leeds United are planning to table a new bid for Southampton striker Cameron Archer, after seeing an initial offer rejected by the Saints, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

The Saints signed Archer from former club Aston Villa in a move worth £15m just last summer, but he has fallen out of favour in Hampshire, making just 10 Premier League starts.

The Whites have already seen a loan bid for the 23-year-old rejected by the Premier League outfit, but FLW can now reveal that Daniel Farke's men are now planning on making a new offer for the forward, as they look to further bolster their attack amid the quest for a top-flight return.

Ahead of Saturday afternoon's clash with Cardiff City, the Whites currently sit top of the Championship table, and are the top scorers in the second tier, having managed 53 goals in 29 fixtures.

But the potential addition of Archer would add a new dynamic to Farke's attack, and could allow current forward Joel Piroe to drop into the number 10 role, behind the current Saints man.

Archer could be a real asset for Leeds

The race for automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League is an extremely tight one, as just five points separate league leaders Leeds from fourth place Sunderland.

Therefore, the potential signature of Archer could give the Whites a real edge over their top-two chasing rivals, and could even help them on their way to lifting the second tier title.

Archer's Premier League goalscoring record does not make a fantastic reading, as he has scored just two goals in 21 top-flight appearances for the Saints, albeit his starting 11 opportunities have been limited.

Furthermore, he notched just four goals in 29 Premier League outings for his former club Sheffield United last term, as the Blades suffered immediate relegation back to the Championship.

However, his second tier CV suggests that he could be a real asset for the Whites, as he scored 11 goals and created six assists in 23 appearances during a 2022/23 loan spell with Middlesbrough, and he also struck seven goals in 20 Preston North End outings the season before that.
