In their quest to enhance their midfield department, Manchester United could launch an onslaught for Stade Reims’ young midfielder Amadou Kone.

The Red Devils will part ways with Christian Eriksen who will see out his contract, while the futures of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo remain uncertain. Manuel Ugarte appears set to stay, but he has been blowing hot and cold in his maiden campaign at Old Trafford.

Therefore, the Premier League giants need to plug the gap by signing at least one new central midfielder.

According to sources close to Stretty News, United have now set their sights on Kone, a 20-year-old midfielder who has been one of the best revelations in Ligue 1 this season.

Man United following Reims’ Amadou Kone

The youngster is an Ivorian midfielder who was born and raised in Mali. He started his career at African Football Elite before finding his way to Europe thanks to Reims who poached his services in 2023.

Kone initially played for the club’s second team while adjusting to his new surroundings, before being promoted to the first team last summer.

This term, the holding midfielder has made 27 appearances across all competitions, including 23 in Ligue 1. Although he has yet to make a direct goal contribution this season, his importance to the cause shouldn’t be underestimated.

Kone is renowned for his ability to prevail in direct duels, as well as his tactical intelligence and great ability to read and intercept the play.

Nevertheless, Man Utd have some compony in the race for the 20-year-old, as Liverpool and Arsenal have also been monitoring the player’s progress.

The Ivorian is tied to Reims with a contract valid until June 2028. His value is estimated at around £20 million, so he’s considered a relatively affordable profile.

Man Utd have also snapped up the services of one Ligue 1 youngster, securing a deal for Angers’ 18-year-old striker Enzo Kana-Biyik who will join as a free agent.
