Manchester United have sent six players out on loan to test their resolve in new environments this season, with at least one Red almost certain to be leaving permanently come the summer.
Antony, Dan Gore, Ethan Wheatley, Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho all swapped Old Trafford for pastures new, with the latter preparing to become an official Chelsea player when his loan agreement expires in June.
United included an obligation to buy in the winger’s exit contract, provided the Stamford Bridge outfit finish in the top 14 of the Premier League. They will then have to fork out a fee between £20-25 million to add him to their books – four years after the Reds paid Borussia Dortmund £73m to acquire his services.
A relatively positive start in blue has since turned stagnant for Sancho – to no United fan’s surprise. He’s notched two goals and four assists in 18 league appearances, as well as two assists in the Conference League, but has completely blanked in 10 of his last 11 outings in all competitions.
On Monday, he further severed what remains of his ties with the United faithful by firing a thinly veiled dig the club’s way, having suggested Marcus Rashford found ‘freedom’ since leaving Manchester for Aston Villa in the winter window.

Nonetheless, Chelsea chiefs are still of the belief that they were right to snap up the outcast Red at the start of the term, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano in his latest YouTube video.
“Jadon Sancho, we have seen some criticism in recent weeks. He’s not performing like he was at the beginning of the season,” Romano began. “But I can guarantee to you, Chelsea are still very happy with the signing of Jadon Sancho. The obligation to buy is not in doubt – it’s just the amount of add-ons that is going to change based on the position of Chelsea in the Premier League.
“Chelsea remain very satisfied with the signing of Sancho, and whilst this is not the best moment for the player, in general, to invest in a player like Sancho, Chelsea internally see it as a good idea.”
