‘Far too early’ to call us best team in the world- Arne Slot | OneFootball

Liverpool are top of the Premier League and Champions League, but manager Arne Slot believes it is too early to call them the best team in the world.

Asked about his thoughts on Thomas Frank calling his side the best, he said: “His opinion means something to me because he’s done well at Brentford for so many years. But I think it’s far too early for me to say these things. We have to face a lot of teams.

“The Champions League format this season is difficult. Can we judge the league table in the Champions League? Because every team has faced different teams and you can be lucky or unlucky.

“If I look at PSG, every week I think they have the toughest game so they are quite low in the table which is not their quality.”

He may have a point, as PSG have faced Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, PSV and have Manchester City next up. Whilst Liverpool have played AC Milan, Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen as their toughest games.

But regardless the Reds have won all six games and with a point against Lille tomorrow evening, they will confirm qualification into the next round.

Slot also gave some insight into the mentality of his side and how they have high expectations: “These players are not impressed by a win against Leverkusen or Real Madrid, that’s not special for them, they’ve done it so many times.”

If they are to win the Champions League, they will no doubt have to face more sides if that ilk, so a strong mentality bodes well.
