On Sunday afternoon 26-year-old Club Brugge striker Ferran Jutgla grabbed his 13th goal of the campaign. The former Barcelona striker finished off a well put together move by the defending champions to open the scoring against Antwerp. While the side as a collective may be chasing a 20th top flight title in Belgium, the Spanish forward is also closing in on a milestone. If he can add three more goals before the end of the season, he will have enjoyed the best scoring season of his career in Belgium.
At the moment, Jutgla’s best season in terms of goals came during the 2021/2022 campaign for Barcelona’s second team. In 32 games in the lower leagues of Spanish football he grabbed 19 goals. He also managed to score two goals in nine appearances for the Barcelona senior side. However, rather than remain in La Liga, at the end of that season he left Catalunya to move to Brugge. In his first season in Belgium he scored 15 goals in 44 games, with 11 coming in 50 games during the 2023/2024 campaign.
In terms of the sides top scorer’s this season, Jutgla is one goal behind Christos Tzolis and level on goals with Hans Vanaken on nine. Club have eight games to go in the league alongside an appearance in the cup final against Anderlecht. This should give Jutgla plenty of opportunities to go beyond the 15 goals of a few seasons ago. With a contract set to expire in 2026, a strong season from Jutgla will give both parties food for thought about extending over the summer.
