And another another gameweek, we’re over half way there and into GW21. Following another round of FA Cup action at the weekend, we’re having a look at the best captaincy picks ahead of the midweek round of fixtures. Here are the best captaincy choices ahead of FPL GW21.

Our surprise picks have been getting very little luck lately but we are hoping our choice ahead of GW21 will change that. GW20 we picked Aston Villa frontman Ollie Watkins, and despite getting a number of gilt-edge opportunities to find the net in their 2-1 win over Leicester, the English International finished with a disappointing 2 points to his name.

Let’s hope our surprise pick for GW21 gets among the goals Thursday night!

FPL GW21 Best Captain Options: The Usual Suspects

Cole Palmer (11.4m)

Tuesday night’s clash at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Bournemouth has the potential to be a very entertaining watch for the neutral.

Both sides have performed really well so far this season and are coming off the back of convincing wins in the FA cup at the weekend. (Chelsea 5-0 Morecambe, Bournemouth 5-1 West Brom).

Confidence will be sky high in both camps and with Chelsea bagging a late winner against Bournemouth earlier in the season, the Cherries will be seeking revenge on Tuesday night.

Having been rested at the weekend, Cole Palmer will be fresh and ready to continue on his excellent form shown in the earlier parts of the season as Enzo Maresca’s side look to continue their charge at securing European football for next season.

Although Chelsea have gone through a rough patch of results recently, Maresca has always insisted they were not in a title race. For this reason alone, the Blues may be under less pressure to perform.

Palmer has yet to find the net against Bournemouth in his 3 matches against the Cherries in a Chelsea shirt, a stat we think he will change in tonight’s fixture.

Mohammed Salah (13.7m)

In GW4, Nottingham Forest came to Anfield and overturned the Reds in their only loss in the Premier League this season to date.

Tonight, they renew that rivalry at the City ground with Forest currently on a run of 6 wins league wins in a row. Nuno Espirito Santo has Forest playing brilliantly at the moment and they rightfully hold 3rd spot in the table.

Tonight will be a real test for the overachievers as they welcome Arne Slot’s men after a convincing 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley in the cup at the weekend.

Top scorer Mohamed Salah was rested at the weekend and will be keen to get back amongst the goals against a side he has found it difficult to score against recently. (He has failed to score against Forest in his last 2 appearances)

Talks continue to circulate if the goal machine will be at Anfield next season. Liverpool fans are desperate for him to extend his contract with the club, however the situation continues to drag on. Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander Arnold are also in contract talks with the club.

Erling Haaland (14.8m)

Two goals in a convincing 4-1 win over West Ham in the league last time out was the perfect start to 2025 for Erling Haaland after a difficult couple of months in front of goal for the number nine.

Tonight, City make the trip to Brentford in the hope of continuing on that good form that has seen them win 3 in a row including an 8-0 thumping of Salford City at the weekend.

And recently Haaland has enjoyed playing the Bees as he has bagged 3 in his last 3 outings against Thomas Frank’s men. An impressive stat for the Norwegian goal-machine.

It’s been a tough season so far for Pep Guardiola’s side as they look almost certain to relinquish the Premier League title that they held for the last four seasons.

But a strong 2025 for Haaland and co. can paper over the early season cracks at the Etihad.

Bukayo Saka (10.2m)

Saka had surgery on his hamstring and is set to be out for a couple of months, a big blow to the Gunners after also exiting the FA cup at the weekend, get him out of your GW21 team if you haven’t already. The same can be said for Gabriel Jesus who has been ruled out with an ACL injury.

Bruno Fernandes (8.3m)

Manchester United welcome relegation-bound Southampton to Old Trafford on Thursday night in the hope that they can follow up their encouraging results against Liverpool & Arsenal.

Things seem to be changing for the better under new manager Ruben Amorim and if their two previous performances are anything to go by, United have finally found the right man to lead them to challenging for trophies again.

Captain and Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes is at the heart of the improvement of Manchester United and we feel Thursday night could be the perfect opportunity for them to take advantage of all the chances he has been creating over the past month.

Having come up against the Saints eight times in his career, he is yet to experience a defeat with 4 wins and 4 draws, it’s a good sign ahead of a big match for both sides.

He also comes into the match having seven goal contributions against Thursday’s opponents (4 goals, 3 assists), and with his excellent record from the penalty spot, there will be endless opportunities to get on the scoresheet.

It seems like the perfect time to include Fernandes in your GW21 FPL team.
