FC Barcelona continue to showcase this season that they can and will step up on the big occasions. Despite a rather frustrating end to 2024, the Catalan giants did everything in their power to start off the new year with a bang. Fortunately for Hansi Flick, that is exactly what his Barcelona team has ended up doing.
By thrashing Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, the Blaugranes have won their first title under the guidance of the German coach. A huge victory, and a statement one, that shows everyone that the Catalan giants are still very much alive and kicking this season.
However, beyond just the main focus on the game and the scoreline, there are certain stories that are intertwined in between. One such story is the future of Ronald Araujo, the 25-year-old Uruguayan defender who captained this Barcelona team after coming on in the final and completely nullifying any advances from Los Blancos.
Currently linked to a move to Juventus, there is a lot of noise and a lot of rumors suggesting that he could soon be on his way out. However, amidst all this noise and drama, the player stepped up to the occasion and helped Barcelona land the Spanish Super Cup title after Inigo Martinez’s injury.
Moreover, fellow Barcelona teammate Gavi clearly saw that this was a difficult occasion for Araujo on a personal level, and he did what he could to make sure his team’s captain felt proud of himself as well.
According to Diario AS, the Movistar cameras managed to catch a moment after the final whistle that showed an endearing gesture from the young Spanish midfielder towards his Uruguayan teammate.
First, he shared an affectionate hug with his captain, and clearly motivated him by saying some words. Then, he gestured towards the fans to applaud the defender and give him an ovation, something that they eagerly responded to and did so without any complaints. Robert Lewandowski was also there to embrace the defender and applaud him.
This gesture, regardless of what ends up happening in the future, was a true showcase of unity and strength. Barcelona must be a family at all times, and no matter what noise comes from outside, it is in moments like this that the true strength of a team can shine through.
