Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic showcased their importance once again as they scored the goals in AC Milan’s 2-2 draw against Fiorentina. For the Rossoneri, they are a lifeline in the Coppa Italia pursuit.

As highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), if someone had said that two Milan strikers scored, a month ago the fans would have thought about Santiago Gimenez, Rafael Leao, Christian Pulisic and maybe even Joao Felix. However, now, there are Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic.

Or rather, Abraham and Jovic again. All of the last four Rossoneri goals bear their signature. The Serbian got one against Napoli, then the Englishman bagged the crucial goal against Inter, before both of them scored against Fiorentina last night.

Points to prove

Abraham and Jovic both had points to prove, as the newspaper continues. Alvaro Morata secured the starting spot in the first half of the season, despite good signs from the Englishman, while the Serbian was left out of the squad list for the Champions League.

Adding to the plot yesterday, Jovic scored a so-called gol dell’ex against Fiorentina, having spent a season at the club before leaving for free. He wasn’t treated well by La Viola and it’s something he has made clear before, so the goal must have felt good (he was also named the MOTM by us)

As for Abraham, despite the signing of Gimenez, he has never given up and is now the only striker to have reached double figures for Milan this season (10 goals in 40 games). If anything, the increased competition has seemingly only fueled him in recent months.

Worries remain for Milan

While Jovic and Abraham have reasons to smile, the rest of Milan’s attack isn’t having a great time. Leao is still looking for his first goal at San Siro in Serie A, as all six of his league goals have come away from home.

Gimenez, meanwhile, hasn’t scored in eight games (ten if we also count international duty) and in the last three, he has come off the bench with no impact. Yesterday, he came on for Abraham, but after just 25 minutes, he was forced to be substituted after a clash with David De Gea.

A strong blow to the side and a bad fall, which will be monitored in the coming days. In place of Gimenez, the other great illusion of February, namely Joao Felix, came on. The Portuguese stopped at the debut goal against Roma in the Coppa Italia. Then nothing, zero goals and zero assists.

The rebirth of Abraham and Jovic, as such, is Milan’s only lifeline for winning the Coppa Italia this season.
