Santiago Gimenez came off the bench during AC Milan’s win over Genoa and made a difference, setting up the equalising goal.
Milan appeared to be heading for defeat when Genoa got themselves in front in the second half through substitute striker Vitinha. The Portuguese had not scored a single league goal all season, but you wouldn’t have guessed that from his excellently-taken volley.
As the rain continued to pour at the Marassi, the Rossoneri scored twice inside two minutes to turn the game on its head. The equalising goal came from Rafael Leao after Gimenez’s cut-back into the box, and the second was an own-goal from a dangerous Leao cross to complete the comeback.
Gimenez spoke to DAZN after the full-time whistle to offer his thoughts on a hard-fought win that builds confidence in view of the Coppa Italia final. MilanNews transcribed his comments.
Milan needed your ability to attack the space in behind…
“I’m feeling very good. I know my strengths and I always try to make them available to the group. I feel comfortable when I have to attack the space in behind.”
