A total of eight Eagles were in action for their national teams on Friday. A round-up.

There was celebration for Ansgar Knauff and the German U21 team as they sealed their place in the 2025 European Under-21 Championship with one match to spare. Thanks to a 2-1 win at home to Bulgaria, the German youngsters can no longer be caught at the top of Group D with a four-point lead over Poland. Knauff was on the pitch for 72 minutes in Regensburg. In Group H, France are only a point behind current leaders Slovenia after a 3-0 win against Cyprus, in which Hugo Ekitiké scored the first goal after 18 minutes. The French also have a game in hand, which they play on Tuesday against Austria.

It’s a similar situation for Aurèle Amenda and Switzerland in Group E. After Friday’s 1-1 draw against Finland – which the Eintracht defender played the entirety of – the Swiss U21s are a point behind leaders Romania, who they face on the final matchday in a direct showdown for automatic qualification for next summer’s tournament in Slovakia.

Marmoush on course with Egypt

It’s three wins out of three for Omar Marmoush and Egypt in qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations. The Eintracht goal-getter was substituted in second-half stoppage time at the Cairo International Stadium as Egypt saw off Mauritania 2-0. The result leaves the Pharaohs six points clear at the top of Group C.  Ellyes Skhiri was also in AFCON qualifying action with Tunisia, who suffered their first setback after beginning the campaign with two wins. Skhiri came on in the 73rd minute at the Stade Olympique de Rades but couldn’t prevent his side slipping to a 1-0 defeat at home to Comoros. In the UEFA Nations League, Sweden remain top of Group C1 after a 2-2 draw with Slovakia on Matchday 3. Hugo Larsson was a 62nd-minute substitute.

Wins for U20 internationals

Elsewhere, Germany U20s, whose starting line-up included Nnamdi Collins – alongside Frankfurt academy product Elias Baum, currently on loan at Elversberg – beat their Polish counterparts 3-1 in Ahlen. Collins was on the field for 80 minutes. Jean-Mattéo Bahoya was also involved in an eventful match at the Centre National du Football in Clairefontaine-en-Yvelines, where it finished 4-3 to France U20s against Morocco.
