Poyet has exclusively revealed to FLW who he believes Leeds need to seriously strengthen their pormotion bid.

Leeds United are yet to live up to their promise this season, hitting roadblocks along the way, but if they can secure this huge transfer in January, it could put them well on their way to the Premier League.

Gustavo Hamer has arguably been a contender for Championship player of the season so far this season.

The Sheffield United midfielder has proven once again he is above the level of the Championship and the Blades will do well to keep hold of him, especially if the Blades don't secure promotion.

Leeds were one of those clubs who were keen to acquire Hamer's services back in the summer, but the Blades fended off the Whites, claiming their reported bid of £13 million was "a million miles away", proving how valuable he is to Chris Wilder's side.

A much higher figure would be needed to capture the 27-year-old and won't be an easy prospect if Leeds are to go in for the midfielder again in January, to increase their chances of promotion.

Leeds will certainly want to make their claim in the Championship this season after previous failures in returning to the top flight.

They've had performances this season which have shown their worth to be a Premier League side once more, but still lack a potential missing piece.

Injuries haven't helped Daniel Farke's side, and indicates business will be done when January does come around.

Speaking exclusively to FLW, former Sunderland boss, Gus Poyet, believes Farke needs to look into improving his creative and attacking options in the winter, with no worries in the defensive department.

Poyet said: “I would look at midfield and striker area, as with so many games, it’s important to get goals. Defensively, Leeds have been good, so with small margins now between the top sides challenging for promotion, goals win games and to have goals in the side and off the bench are important.”

“Gus Hamer is a top player and the more top players Leeds United can have in their squad, the better. The Championship is so competitive, Leeds United are pushing for promotion and with injuries in midfield, it’s important to have players in the first XI who are of the calibre of those injured, so to ensure Leeds United can maintain a promotion challenge.”

Hamer will cost a pretty penny but could be a game changer

Leeds face a lot of missions to complete this deal. The rejected bid of £13m already suggests the 27-year-old will cost a hefty fee and, adding to the fact that the Blades are a promotional rival, the deal will certainly not come cheap.

With his contract expiring in 2027, Sheffield United are definitely keen to make sure he goes for the right price, but would Hamer even make the jump to Leeds?

The Blades have started the season strongly with Hamer at the forefront of everything in Wilder's side.

He may not fancy the prospect of Leeds due to the Blades' current form in the Championship, being the only side yet to lose this campaign.

Despite these issues, there is no doubting Hamer would change this Leeds side.

His creativity in attack and excellent work rate would be a gem for Farke's system. If they were to go in for Hamer once more in January, whatever the Blades deem his valuation to be, the Whites should match it.

Not only would he be vital in helping Leeds with promotion, but in the right system, he can flourish in the Premier League, and with the quality of players that could potentially be around him at Leeds, it could be a recipe for success.
