Marc Casado’s recent knee ligament injury, sustained against Atletico Madrid this past weekend, though not severe enough to require surgery, has left Barcelona without a crucial midfield option.
Even though it seemed like Casado’s importance had waned in recent weeks, with Hansi Flick opting to start Frenkie de Jong as Pedri’s partner more and more, the 21-year-old remains a key cog and has started eight of Barça’s last 16 matches.
As such, his absence, for the next two months or so, will be a blow for the Blaugrana, leaving Flick with the task of finding someone to fill the gap.
Eric Garcia’s name now stands out as a possible alternative for Barcelona, to fill in for the injured Casado.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish defender’s versatility is a quality highly valued by manager Flick.

This season, the ex-Manchester City ace has played in 28 matches (1,155 minutes), featuring 11 times as a defensive midfielder and 17 times as a defender. So far, he has contributed three goals and one assist.
While Casado provides defensive solidity, Garcia offers vision, composure on the ball, strong positioning, and aerial ability.
The Martorell-born defender’s influence was evident in Barcelona’s comeback win over Benfica at Estadio da Luz. He also helped the team turn the match around against Atletico Madrid after coming on in the 66th minute with the Catalans two goals down.
Flick had played a key role in ensuring Garcia stayed at the club during the winter transfer window. Now, as Barcelona enters the final stretch of the season, his role is set to grow even further at a pivotal moment for the club.
