“He disappeared” – Struggling Chelsea winger couldn’t make impact against Southampton

Chelsea may have got back on track with a big win over Southampton last night, but Jadon Sancho’s form remains a worry.
In a game where his team had the run of the pitch, he made little impact bar the usual few nice and neat touches. He struggles to influence really tight games – but in this case he couldn’t even torment a dreadful Saints side.
William Gallas was openly critical of the winger in recent days too:
“He has a lot of potential and he has real quality, that’s why people are disappointed in his recent performances,” the former Blues defender said.
“In all honesty, I don’t know if he can be consistent in the Premier League. That is the most difficult thing about playing in England. You have to push yourself to the limit and not just once, you have to do it all season. Some players just cannot do it, it’s just too much for them.
Gallas’ former teammate Jon Obi Mikel had some similar things to say in the last few weeks:
“Jadon Sancho came in and deceived us with a couple of games, and we thought, “fu*king hell, we are getting the Sancho from Dortmund”, but he’s gone again,” the ex-Chelsea midfielder said on his podcast.
“I don’t know what happened to him, but he has disappeared off the grid.”

There is time left this season for Sancho to step up – and with our current lack of depth in attack, there’s no doubt he will keep getting chances. But he will have to do well between now and the end of the season to change our minds that he’s simply not a top class option.
