One of Sheffield Wednesday's coaches, Henrik Pedersen, has been linked with joining Leicester City's coaching staff.

A managerial appointment is expected to be made by the Foxes after they officially part ways with Ruud Van Nistelrooy - a domino that is set to fall sooner than later.

Former Southampton boss Russell Martin is expected to take the Dutchman's place in the dugout at the King Power Stadium. According to The Star, Leicester want the Wednesday coach to join him.

This all comes amid a period of huge uncertainty at Hillsborough. Their manager, Danny Rohl, has seemingly been shopping himself about Europe.

The only thing that has reportedly stopped clubs like the Saints, or even Leicester, from appointing him is the compensation that they would then owe Wednesday to get the German out of his deal, which still has two years left on it. The requisite fee has been described as being "excessive and prohibitive", following broken-down talks between Rohl and Werder Bremen.

Leicester move may be a wise one for Sheffield Wednesday coach to make

Football League World's Owls fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, believes that it might be a smart move for Pedersen, personally, to get away from the chaos of his current club, especially if the Foxes, with their pedigree, are calling.

"If he did want to move to Leicester I would not blame him one bit, and I would apply that to any member of staff at the club," McKenna admitted.

"Let's be honest, under the reign of Chansiri, it hasn't been a good place to work. Right now the club is a shambles with a toxic atmosphere.

"If you look at Pedersen's situation, his contract is running out and there doesn't appear to be any great certainty about what is happening with him. As well, he will have seen non-paid wages during the season.

"As a coach, to come back in the summer to a depleted squad with no guarantees that there will be a lot of improvements, if you can move to somewhere like Leicester, even though they are having some of their own problems, the facilities and the structure of the club would be an improvement.

"At the end of the day, Pedersen is a coach working in the football industry. He's not a Sheffield Wednesday fan, although he does seem to be pretty happy in Sheffield according to some reports. He'll want to take a chance, if possible, to move to a better club, to a better role.

"He has absolutely no reason to stay with us if he doesn't want to, and if he does move I'd wish him all the very best."

Sheffield Wednesday will not be an attractive project for players this summer

With the manager constantly on the brink of departure, uncertainty around the playing staff and the potential for league rivals to poach members of their playing staff, you've got to ask: why would free agents currently want to move to Hillsborough.

McKenna touched on arguably the biggest red flag: the players weren't paid their March wages on time, which almost led to the club receiving a three-window-long transfer ban.

It's amazing that a club which had such an upwards trajectory a year ago after pulling off a miracle relegation escape thanks to Rohl can be back in such a poor state now.
