Spurs skipper “still not 100 per cent” as Carabao Cup last-16 showdown with Manchester City looms

Tottenham look set to remain without captain Heung-min Son for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Son was said to be experiencing some soreness after that Hammers game and was not risked for Thursday night’s 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar having sat out training, with Postecoglou insisting ahead of the match that the South Korean forward would not have played anyway due to his recent lay-off.

The Tottenham boss has now confirmed that Son will miss training again on Friday and is therefore a huge doubt for another all-London meeting with winless Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

"Last night all good, no issues but obviously a bit of fatigue with some of the boys as they haven't played for a while but all good,” Postecoglou said at his pre-match press conference.

“Sonny is still not right or feeling 100 per cent. He won't train today and so unlikely for the weekend and we'll see how he is beyond that."

Spurs will be very eager to get Son back for a tough run of fixtures coming up that sees them host Manchester City in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup next week before a home meeting with Aston Villa and trip to Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Tottenham will have Wilson Odobert back in the fold this weekend after he made his first appearance for more than a month off the bench against AZ Alkmaar following his own hamstring injury.

Lucas Bergvall and Richarlison should also be fit after both being substituted with cramp in the second half on Thursday night.

However, full-back Djed Spence - who is not in Spurs’ Europa League squad - will miss out again with a groin strain suffered in training last week. He is not expected to be sidelined for very long.

"Spence is getting closer, we hope next week he'll be back in training,” Postecoglou said.
