“VfB and Sebastian Hoeneß have worked in perfect harmony from day one. Sebastian led our team from acute relegation danger to the runners-up spot and into the Champions League. He has implemented a clear style of play and improved many players individually,”said VfB Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle.

“We have always known that we want to work with Sebastian in the long term. Our day-to-day working relationship is characterised by trust and Sebastian is a perfect fit for us and our goals, both professionally and personally. We are confident that we will continue on our successful path together and are delighted about the contract extension.”

Hoeness arrived in April 2023 and has taken the club from the brink of relegation to the Champions League after sensationally finishing second in the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season.

The 42-year-old has been linked with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, but by signing a new contact, the coach has put speculation about his future to rest for the time being.

“I’m very pleased about the contract extension because I'm convinced that we can still achieve a lot together. When I joined VfB almost two years ago, we were in a challenging situation with the team in 18th place in the table. Nevertheless, if felt like the right move. And it feels just as right now to extend my contract," said Hoeness.

“The working relationship with the people at management level including Alex Wehrle, Fabian Wohlgemuth and Christian Gentner, has been very trusting from the outset. After the relegation play-offs, together we have embarked on a successful path that has taken us all the way to the Champions League.

“We want to and have to continue to give our all at every level of the club in order to be successful in the long term. That includes further developing and strengthening our team. We want to be able to play in European competition in the long term. Now it’s time to focus our energies on the final straight of the Bundesliga season. And of course, we’re all looking forward to the DFB Cup semi-final and are determined to take the last step towards the final in Berlin.”
