Lazio coach Marco Baroni takes pride in the work conducted at the club, while revealing that most incidents that occur at Formello remain hidden from the public.

Lazio Secure Hard-Fought Win Over Atalanta

The 61-year-old was naturally in a good mood after registering a timely victory over Atalanta away from home, thanks to Gustav Isaksen’s solitary strike. In his post-match press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Baroni insisted that the team wasn’t enduring a mid-season collapse, despite suffering setbacks in recent weeks.

I never felt we’re facing a collapse. We had some good displays that weren’t rewarded with victories. We made mistakes that we paid for, but we played with our identity. I am happy for my players. This win allowed us to make the rotations that we have always done.

Marco Baroni Explains Lazio Fortress

Baroni explained how he considers secrecy vital for his work, so he makes sure key information doesn’t escape the club’s training ground.

I built a fortress at the club where I locked in the players and those who work with me. We don’t let anything come out. Nobody knows what happens inside. We have now scored the 16th goal off the bench. Noslin, Dia have come back from injuries, Dele-Bashiru has not yet recovered from his ankle problem. Lazzari wasn’t well in Bologna. What we need is this attitude, the team has always believed in hard work. We are ready for the path that lies ahead, and it would have been the same without this victory.

January Signings

Baroni finally gave Oliver Provstgaard his debut as he replaced Samuel Gigot in the second half, while Reda Belahyane earned his first start.

We rotated everyone. Some players were not used but they have been working like beasts. The January arrivals (Ibrahimovic, Belahyane and Provstgaard) are very  young. These guys had the difficulty of dealing with so many games and very few training sessions, so we tried to burn time.

Taty Castellanos’ Return Delayed

Baroni was expected to give Taty Castellanos a 20-minute cameo on his return from injury, but had to alter his plans due to the match’s circumstances.

We played against an opponent for whom I have immense respect, for the coach and for the club. Atalanta had a lot to play for, but my players did really well. In the first half we risked almost nothing, despite forced substitutions. Noslin had a couple of stitches on his finger, while we planned to give Taty 20 minutes, but there was no space to do so. But despite the circumstances, the players did really well.

New Knock for Nuno Tavares

Finally, the manager was asked about Nuno Tavares who left his place on the pitch for Luca Pellegrini after suffering yet another muscle issue.

Nuno still needs to be evaluated. I hope it’s just muscle fatigue. He’ll undergo tests on Monday.
