Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui says he has never experienced a season like this one before in his career because of the backing from supporters despite his team’s struggles.
United are enduring their worst ever domestic season in the Premier League era, sitting 16th in the table on just 39 points with two games left to play.
Mazraoui joined the club last summer from Bayern Munich and admits his debut season in Manchester has been a painful one.
“Yeah of course I personally am,” he said when asked if this season had caused hurt.
“I come from clubs where I’m not used to losing, I will never get used to losing wherever I am.
“It’s painful, it’s a painful moment, but life is sometimes painful and you just have to go through it.”
Mazraoui credited the Man Utd fans, however, saying he is not used to being supported when things are so bad.
“I have huge, huge, huge respect for the Manchester United fans this season,” he said.
“The way they still support us throughout the difficulties, I’ve never experienced this, I’m used to more criticism.”
United still have a chance to secure Champions League football for next season and win silverware in this one, however, when they take on Tottenham in the Europa League final.
“We have to give them (the fans) something back for how they behave this season, how they cope with all the disappointment, so this is our chance to give them a little bit back,” Mazraoui said.
“It’s a lot of pressure but it’s not my first game where there’s a lot of pressure on the game.
“I’ve experienced the semi-final of the World Cup and those kind of games so this is a little bit similar.
“Of course it’s a slightly different context with a lot at stake but I love the pressure.”
