Lazio veteran Pedro revealed he never had any doubts before converting the last-gasp spot-kick against AC Milan.
Mattia Zaccagni had given the Biancocelesti a well-deserved lead at San Siro in the first half, but they somehow squandered it in the 84th minute despite their numerical advantage. Nevertheless, Marco Baroni’s men kept pushing for a winner until the final whistle, and Gustav Isaksen won a last-minute penalty that was converted by Pedro.
The 37-year-old appeared to be the coolest person at the stadium. Unfazed by the pressure, the former Barcelona and Chelsea man expertly sent Mike Maingnan in the opposite way to give his team a valuable win. In his post-match interview with Lazio Style Channel (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the experienced forward revealed he knew he was going to score.
It was difficult to convert a penalty in the last minutes. But I was confident, I wanted to be the one to take it. The victory is deserved after a beautiful performance. We are happy to win here at San Siro. It is an important win that can give so much confidence going forward.
Pedro also heaped praise on his teammate Isaksen who has raised his game to a whole new level recently. In addition to winning the spot kick, the Dane had also forced Strahinja Pavlovic to commit the foul that resulted in his dismissal.
He seems to have unlocked himself, he has more confidence in one-on-one plays, as well as shooting, finding space between the lines and looking for vertical plays. He was missing these things in the plast, so I told him not to lower his head because he is giving a lot to the team.
