The Blues are currently going through a difficult spell, and were dumped out of the FA Cup by Brighton on Saturday.

Chelsea still sit fourth in the league and on course to qualify for the Champions League, but the Conference League is now their only shot at silverware.

Sancho names toughest player to play against in training

Sancho, who arrived on an initial loan from Manchester United on deadline day last summer, made a good start to life at Stamford Bridge as he registered three assists in his first three games for the club.

The England international scored his first two goals in Blue against Southampton and Tottenham, but Sancho, like Chelsea has struggled in recent weeks.

With Mykhailo Mudryk currently suspended following a positive doping test, Sancho has made the left wing his own in Maresca’s system.

However, the 24-year-old hasn’t registered a goal contribution since the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at the start of January, with John Obi Mikel warning him he can’t afford to relax at Chelsea.

The move to Chelsea is a chance for Sancho to get his career back on track following a difficult spell at Manchester United, and he’s part of a very talented squad.

Sancho was asked who the toughest player to play against in training is, and his answer is unlikely to be a surprise to Chelsea fans.

“I’d probably say Reece James,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s good at reading play, especially what I do when I stop and start. He’s good at reading that, but not all the time.”

James was absent from Chelsea’s FA Cup defeat to Brighton, which sparked worry amongst fans, but Maresca insisted it was a planned absence.

Chelsea will be hoping both James and Sancho can contribute as they return to Brighton on Friday night desperate for three points.
