PSV Eindhoven’s Ivan Perisic has claimed Arsenal have been “missing something” in recent years which has meant that they have not been able to win silverware.

The Gunners‘ last big trophy win was the FA Cup in the summer of 2020, just seven months after Mikel Arteta took charge.

PSV face Arsenal in the Champions League round of 16 and the former Tottenham winger was asked how he thought the match would unfold. The Croatian star, 36, praised Arsenal but insists he is confident his side can beat them.

He said: “It’s going to be tough, they are a really good team, a young team. Good coach, but in the last years they are always missing something to step up to win something.

“We have to be ready and I know we are going to have a good chance to beat them. I really believe in my team. We have trained well and tactically we have to be on the top level to show something good against them.”

Perisic was also quizzed on his fitness and availability at this stage of his career. He added: “Like you know last year I had a really big injury and I came back as quick as possible. I needed some time to catch the rhythm of the other players.”

He has scored three goals in his last five games, playing both left wing and right wing. The Gunners will be hoping he is not able to notch against them, as with only two goals in their last four games, they may struggle to respond.

PSV themselves have also been in poor form in the Dutch Eredivisie, with no wins in their last four games.

“We have to do much, much better in the league than we have done in the last two months,” Perisic said.

Peter Bosz’s side might be struggling domestically but in Europe have beaten Juventus and Liverpool this season. They will be confident they can cause an upset and surprise Arsenal.
