Saturday’s early Premier League kickoff between Everton and Manchester United will feature an interesting subplot as David Moyes and Ruben Amorim share the touchline.

The Toffees are currently enjoying a resurgence under their returning Scotsman who managed to lift them up to the 14th spot in the table – that’s one above the free-falling Red Devils.

Therefore, former Arsenal star Paul Merson tips the 61-year-old to out-clever his younger colleague and pile more misery on his former employers. The retired midfielder thus heaped praise on Moyes whose adaptability and tactical flexibility are paying off.

“If you look at both Moyes and Ruben Amorim, there’s a lesson here,” noted Merson (via TBR).

“Moyes is an adaptable manager in the sense that if he were at West Ham with better players, he would adopt a different style of play.”

On the other hand, Merson berated Amorim for his stubborn approach as he insists on fielding a 3-4-3 formation even though his squad was built to play with four at the back.

“But Amorim isn’t like that. The Portuguese will keep playing the same way even if he doesn’t have the right players for his system!

“I honestly don’t know what Amorim is trying to do. It’s insanity because it’s not working at all. Manchester United have been all over the place under him and need to come back to a 4-3-3 and try to become solid.”

Therefore, the Gunners legend expects Everon to come out on top this weekend, predicting a 2-1 result.

“I’d be surprised if Manchester United win this game. It may even be a draw, but never a win for the visitors in my opinion.”

Man Utd had won the opposite fixture by four unanswered goals with Marcus Rashford scoring twice, but it now feels like ages ago.
