Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi had to bite his tongue after a costly refereeing error against Bologna.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that the anger is still very much there from the Nerazzurri coach.

Inter dropped points in Serie A for the first time since November yesterday.

The Nerazzurri drew 2-2 against Bologna in a match that was in many ways reminiscent of stalemates earlier in the season against Genoa or Monza – if not the wild 4-4 stalemate draw with juventus.

Inter certainly have themselves to blame for the result. The performance was not enough to secure three points to keep the pressure on Napoli and Atalanta in the title race.

But at the same time, the Nerazzurri could also point to a piece of refereeing that certainly didn’t go their way.

Inzaghi Bites His Tongue – Quietly Fuming With Inter Vs Bologna Penalty Decision

There was one key moment where Inter striker Marcus Thuram looked to knock the ball past Bologna keeper Lukas Skorupski.

The Polish international did seem to attempt to pull out of challenging for the ball. However, he still clattered into Thuram.

Referee Luca Pairetto saw the incident the other way, however.

Because Thuram had run into Skorupski, the referee whistled for a foul against the Inter striker.

However, considering the Bologna keeper failed to make contact with the ball, this seemed like a very fortunate decision for him, as he had been late in his challenge.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was clearly not happy with that decision in real time.

And after the match, the Inter coach went to vent his feelings to referee Pairetto.

The coach carefully chose his words after the match. He was hardly scathing in his assessment, but at the same time made it clear that he felt that the official had made an error.

The Nerazzurri coach further suggested that he was trying to protect his players from a booking for telling off Pairetto after the match by going to speak to the official himself.

Inzaghi seemed to bite his tongue. He did not angrily blame the referee for the result or go on a tirade.

But the anger was certainly evident in the Inter coach’s words. And the reaction in speaking to Pairetto after the match.
