Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has blocked the sale of Davide Frattesi until after this month’s Champions League matches.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that he doesn’t want to lose the 25-year-old before the team’s round of sixteen fate is decided.

At the moment, Roma are trying to sign Inter midfielder Frattesi.

The Giallorossi reportedly see an opportunity to take advantage of the 25-year-old’s desire for a change of scenery. Frattesi has decided that he wants to leave Inter due to a lack of playing time.

There would be the financial hurdle of Inter’s asking price for Frattesi, however.

Roma do need to be mindful of their spending. They are at some risk of falling afoul of Financial Fair Play rules.

Therefore, any deal for Frattesi would likely have to be an initial paid loan, structured to spread payment out over a couple of years.

Then, the Corriere notes, there would be the desire of Inter coach Inzaghi not to lose Frattesi right away.

Frattesi may be far from first-choice in the midfield pecking order at Inter.

Nevertheless, Inzaghi does see the Italian international has important squad depth in midfield.

Particularly, Frattesi has often had his chances in the starting eleven in the Champions League.

And Inter face two more big Champions League matches this month.

Outings against the likes of Sparta Prague and Monaco will decide whether or not the Nerazzurri qualify directly for the round of sixteen.

Inzaghi will hardly want to be light in midfield for those matches. Particularly with Henrikh Mkhitaryan also having an injury issue.

Inter cannot register any new players for their Champions League squad list until the knockouts, even if they do manage to sign a replacement for Frattesi.

Therefore, Inzaghi will not sanction a sale of Frattesi unless it comes after Inter play their remaining European matches against Sparta and Monaco.
