Inter Milan have made an abrupt U-turn in their plans for Valentin Carboni after the young attacking midfielder’s loan at Marseille ended.

This according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908. They report that the Nerazzurri are hoping to have the Argentine in the squad for the Club World Cup this summer.

Valentin Carboni spent the first few months of the season on loan at Marseille.

The Ligue 1 club signed the Argentine on loan last summer.

The loan deal contained a purchase option for Marseille to sign Carboni on a permanent basis. And there was also a buyback option.

All of that was a reflection of the high regard in which the young attacking midfielder is held.

Meanwhile, Carboni also got his first senior caps for Argentina in the summer.

But then, a significant setback curtailed the young midfielder’s momentum.

In October, Valentin Carboni suffered a serious injury.

The 20-year-old suffered an ACL tear while in training with the Argentina national team.

That effectively ruled Carboni out for the rest of the season. It will still be several months before the Argentine can return to action.

Therefore, Carboni will certainly have no further part to play for Marseille this season.

Inter’s plan had been to have Carboni develop with regular playing time at Marseille.

However, that has clearly not been in the cards.

Therefore, Inter will instead have the Argentine work on his recovery over the rest of the season.

Carboni is now a part of Inter’s squad once again. However, he will hardly have a part to play this campaign.

Nevertheless, report the Gazzetta, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is aiming to have Carboni available for the Club World Cup this summer.
