Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi waxed lyrical about his Nerazzurri squad after a nerve-shredding 1-0 UEFA Champions League triumph against Arsenal.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, as reported by FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri coach outlined tremendous strength in depth at Giuseppe Meazza.
Buoyed by an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions, Inter took the field in high spirits.
However, they were up against a formidable Arsenal side.
That failed to knock the reigning Serie A holders off their perch.
Instead, they went from strength to strength, especially in defense.
After facing harsh criticism for several lackluster performances earlier in the season, Inter silenced their doubters.
Simone Inzaghi oversaw a fourth clean sheet from as many Champions League outings.
Moreover, the Italians shut out one of Europe’s most potent frontlines to set themselves up nicely for the upcoming Serie A derby.
Indeed, Inter will face off against pacesetters Napoli next weekend.
“An extremely important victory, wanted and suffered against an intense team that created danger, especially from set pieces,” Inzaghi said.
“Arsenal is one of the best teams I’ve seen in the Champions League.
“In the first half, we started well, then dropped off, and in the second half, we defended well.
“It’s a source of pride, a night to enjoy, but there are still four games to go, the average so far is excellent.
“What gives me confidence is the team’s compactness.
“If we look at Sommer’s saves, there weren’t many against a great opponent.
“In the last nine matches, we have eight wins and one draw.
“When I say we have 23 starters, it’s not rhetoric, I believe it. Tonight was a great win.
“When you are Inter, you must aim to play as many games as possible and not choose. I think game by game.
“Today, the four who had struggled the most were left out; Barella had an injury before the break.
“I had to give some players rest, it was an intense test.
“Arsenal impressed me a lot with its intensity and organization.
“A very strong team, happy with the solidity of my players.”
