Indeed, Simone Inzaghi guided the Nerazzurri to a long-awaited 20th Serie A title.

Hakan Calhanoglu was central to Inter’s incredible domestic run, finishing the campaign as the league’s best-scoring midfielder.

Furthermore, he helped his side reach the Champions League round of 16, only to bow out to Atletico Madrid.

Overall, it was a remarkable year for the 31-year-old.

In addition to his telling club success, Calhanoglu inspired Turkey to the EURO 2024 quarter-finals.

That was the country’s best tournament run since qualifying for the semi-finals in 2008.

Therefore, the ex-AC Milan playmaker can look back at 2024 with happiness.

Inter Milan Ace Hakan Calhanoglu Offers His Verdict on 2024

“It’s been a great year,” Calhanoglu admitted. “I won the league with Inter.

“And with Turkey, we achieved something special by reaching the Euro quarter-finals after many years.”

However, the highly-rated midfielder refuses to rest on his laurels.

Instead, he hopes to help Turkey return to the grandest international stage.

Indeed, Turkey last qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals in 2002.

And that’s where Calhanoglu wants to excel next.

“Our team can do even better,” he added. “We haven’t qualified for a World Cup in over 20 years, but our generation will change that.”

But Calhanoglu’s form in 2024/25 has declined.

Recurring injury woes haven’t aided his cause, but he’s back to fitness after missing almost the entire January with a muscle problem.

Inter will need Calhanoglu at his best when they lock horns with bitter rivals Juventus next Sunday.

The two sides will renew hostilities in Turin after a memorable 4-4 draw in the reverse fixture at the San Siro.
