Isak scores late penalty to rescue a point at Brighton | OneFootball

Alexander Isak scored a late penalty to earn Newcastle a 1-1 draw at Brighton’s Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls took the lead in the 28th minute when Yankuba Minteh, against his former team, cut inside and rifled a shot past a crowded box into the far corner.

The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half, which turned into a VAR rollercoaster.

Two penalty decisions were overturned by the video assistant referee, but a third was awarded after Yasin Ayari handled a Fabian Schar free-kick.

After a long review, the decision stood, and Isak kept his cool to convert the penalty, bringing his league tally to 23 goals.

Substitute Callum Wilson nearly stole all three points in stoppage time, but Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen made a brilliant save to deny him.

With just three games left, Eddie Howe's side sit fourth on 63 points, three ahead of Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, who both have a game in hand.
