Maximilian Beier has commented on his tough start to life at Borussia Dortmund following his big-money summer transfer from TSG Hoffenheim.

Regarded as one of the most exciting young strikers in Germany, Maximilian Beier joined Borussia Dortmund this past summer on the back of a breakthrough campaign with TSG Hoffenheim. Things have certainly not gone according to plan so far for the 22 year old, who has managed just one goal and one assist in 14 appearances across all competitions.

Beier has found playing time hard to come by at Borussia Dortmund, with Serhou Guirassy ahead of him in the pecking order. Nuri Sahin has fielded the strike duo together in recent games, allowing the Germany international to show more glimpses of his quality.

His best performance so far came in the Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig, as he scored one and set up another to lead Borussia Dortmund to a vital 2-1 win. Now, Beier has commented on his rather difficult start to life at BVB.

"I first had to settle in at Dortmund. I had to find a new apartment, settle in - it wasn't all that easy. When you spend ten days in a familiar environment [with the Germany U-21s], you quickly feel at home. I was then able to transfer that to Dortmund," Beier said in an interview with the DFB.

Amid his lack of playing time, Beier also lost his spot in the Germany senior team and has been nominated for the U-21s in the last two international breaks. Despite that, he remains determined to force his way into Julian Nagelsmann's plans soon.

"As I didn't play much at the club in the first few weeks, I benefited from getting my minutes in the U21s. At my young age, it's all about playing time. In the best-case scenario, I'll make the senior national team again at some point."

Maximilian Beier continued his impressive run of form for the Germany U-21s on Friday by grabbing an assist in their 3-0 win over Denmark.
