Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella feels that his team got an “injection of confidence” from their Champions League win over Young Boys.

The Italian international spoke to RSI after the match, via FCInterNews. He also admitted that he was playing in holding midfield out of “necessity” in the match.

Inter got the three points they were after in the end.

The Nerazzurri beat Young Boys 1-0 to make it two wins in a row in the Champions League and continue their unbeaten run in Europe.

But it was anything but a straightforward match for the Nerazzurri.

Inter may have been facing a team who had lost their opening two matches in the competition against Aston Villa and Barcelona, on top of domestic struggles.

But Young Boys imposed themselves on the match and put Inter’s goal under plenty of pressure.

The fact that things were so tough for Inter made it all the more emotional when the team were finally able to break through.

The Nerazzurri never stopped pushing for the result. And finally, they got what they came for, taking three points back to Milan from Switzerland.

“It was certainly a tough match,” said Inter midfielder Barella after the clash. “On a tough pitch and against opposition who played well.”

“We could have done better on a tactical and technical level,” the 27-year-old admitted.

“But we’ll take the attitude that the players who came on as substitutes showed.”

“The fact that in the finale we pushed to win, even if it meant allowing them some space,” Barella said.

The Italian international called the win “a strong injection of confidence.”

“Lautaro, Dimarco, and Thuram coming on were positive,” Barella said.

“It’s always great when good players come off the bench. This time it was their turn, other times they start and it’s other players who come on.”

And of his performance at the base of Inter’s midfield trio, Barella said that “I felt good in the role.”

“It was out of necessity, as we were missing Calha and Asllani,” he noted.
