Federico Dimarco says that Inter Milan are “just thinking of ourselves” ahead of Sunday evening’s Serie A derby against AC Milan.

The Italian international spoke to Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He reacted to yesterday’s Champions League win over Monaco, and looked ahead to the derby.

Inter take on Milan in the second league derby of the season on Sunday evening.

The Rossoneri have already beaten the Nerazzurri twice this season. Once in Serie A, and once in the Supercoppa Italiana.

Those two wins have come after a streak in which Inter beat Milan in six matches consecutively – across the league, the Supercoppa, and an historic Champions League semifinal tie.

As such, Inter Milan will hardly be happy to have seen their city rivals shift the balance of power in the fixture back in their favour.

Inter have now lost to Milan under two separate coaches.

And this has come amid very contrasting seasons for the two teams. The Nerazzurri have largely been imperious between Serie A and the Champions League, while the Rossoneri have had a rollercoaster season.

Therefore, the fact that Milan have still beaten Inter twice could have a certain intimidation factor.

The Nerazzurri may have proven to be the stronger team overall. But the derby is always a unique match, and the Rossoneri have had the edge in it this season.

Inter wingback Federico Dimarco noted that “The derby is always a match in itself.”

“We’re just thinking about ourselves,” the 27-year-old added. “And playing a great match.”

Meanwhile, Dimarco gave his thoughts on Inter directly qualifying for the Champions League round of sixteen.

“All the teams we’ve come up against have been strong, and have caused us problems,” he said.

“But with the strength of the group, we’ve gotten the results we need. It’s a big step.”

Against Monaco yesterday, Dimarco said that “We attacked right away.”

“Then they went down to ten men, and that made it easier. But we played our game.”
