Derby County boss John Eustace has discussed Leigh Bromby's arrival at the club to help with recruitment.

Derby County boss John Eustace is confident that Leigh Bromby’s arrival will help the club ahead of his first transfer window at the club.

The Rams are battling to stay in the Championship right now, although, thanks to Eustace’s fine work since his appointment, Derby go into the final day sitting 19th, and they know they will be safe if they beat Stoke City at Pride Park.

No matter what happens on Saturday, the East Midlands outfit have started making moves in terms of restructuring ahead of the summer, with Bromby announced as interim Recruitment Lead.

That will see the former Huddersfield Town sporting director have a key role when it comes to reshaping the squad in the summer.

Naturally, that means he will have a close relationship with Eustace, as Bromby will be tasked with identifying players who suit what the manager wants.

And, speaking to Derbyshire Live about Bromby’s arrival, Eustace was full of praise for his previous work, as he backed him to make a positive impact on the club this summer.

“I think Leigh's experienced in that role. He did very well at Huddersfield and I think it's important now whoever's working for the football club to get the right targets and the right people in to improve us and make us better.

“It's (experience) vitally important and depending on what budgets and what league you're in, his experience will certainly help. He's worked at Huddersfield and was very successful there and over that period, especially bringing younger players in and developing the players. He's only going to come in and help the group I'm sure.”

Obviously, Derby’s transfer plans are going to change considerably if they are in League One, so you can’t overstate just how important this weekend is for the club.

Either way, though, Bromby is going to have a big job on his hands this summer as he looks to help Eustace.

If they are relegated, it will be about building a team that can bounce back straight away, but sales are also inevitable as they look to balance the books.

Meanwhile, if they remain in the second tier, they can attract a different calibre of player, and it’s then about trying to build on their work this season, and ensuring they aren’t in another relegation battle in 12 months' time.
