Manchester City are set to open contractual discussions with John Stones in the coming months, particularly in light of his outstanding contributions in front of goal.

The England international has largely struggled for consistency on the game-time front over the last few months, but has come into his own in the goalscoring department when called upon by Pep Guardiola lately.

The aerial threat and ability to score goals, coupled with his versatility to operate in defensive midfield and at right-back, makes John Stones a crucial component of Pep Guardiola’s squad, and it seems as though Manchester City recognise such a fact.

According to a new report from GIVEMESPORT, John Stones is expected to land an extended contract at Manchester City in the coming months, with the hope being to persuading the England international to sign on the dotted line before May.

City will reportedly open talks with Stones over fresh terms in the upcoming weeks, with the 30-year-old still viewed as a crucial member of the Manchester City squad leading to eagerness to ensure he is tied down to a new contract before the end of the season.

A new deal for Stones would become the latest in an outstanding individual season on the accomplishments front for the defender, after he also wore the England captain’s armband during the latest international break.

Having established himself as one of the most experienced features in the Three Lions set-up, his contributions to the national team were recognised by interim head coach Lee Carsley against Greece in UEFA Nations League with the armband.

For now, Stones will remain solely focussed on himself and Manchester City’s work on the pitch, as he outlined during the recent international break when quizzed on Txiki Begiristain’s exit from the role of sporting director, and ongoing legal issues around the club.

“It doesn’t worry [me]. If I can’t control it, I don’t give it headspace or attention. That might seem a bit wrong in some ways, but that is how I deal with it. At the end of the day, it is out of my hands and I put a lot of trust in the Club and the people around me are good,” he said.

“I have quite a simple mindset towards things I can control and affect and don’t think it’s done too bad so far or maybe I haven’t got the capacity to deal with all those things so I put them to one side.”
