Former Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has this week provided an insight into what he considers his one major regret from his time in Spain’s capital.
Mourinho, for his part, of course spent three years on the sideline at the Santiago Bernabéu, racking up a trio of trophies along the way.
In the summer of 2013, however, just a year on from signing a long-term contract extension, the Portuguese made the call to depart.
This came with a view to linking back up with Premier League heavyweights Chelsea.
Mourinho, for his part, went on to lead the Blues to another league title during this spell, as well as a League Cup crown in 2014/15.
And yet, if he could go back and do it all over again, the now-Fenerbahçe boss would give real consideration to staying put at Real Madrid.
Speaking during an interview with CorSport, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, this week, Mourinho was drawn on the major regrets of his career to date.
And the 61-year-old went on to admit:
“Saying no to Florentino Perez remains one of the big regrets He told me: ‘Don’t leave now, you’ve done the hard part and the good part is yet to come. Stay at Real Madrid.’ But I wanted to return to Chelsea after 3 tough years in Spain!”
