Filip Jorgensen will be assessed on his return to London after being substituted during Denmark U21s game against Iceland U21s on Tuesday according to reports.

Jorgensen arrived at Chelsea this summer from Spanish side Villarreal in a deal worth £20.7m and signed a seven year contract, with Paul Winstanley recently explaining why the club offer long term deals.

The 22-year-old has made four appearances for the Blues but his minutes have so far been limited to the Carabao Cup and the Conference League.

Jorgensen to be assessed after being substituted for Denmark U21s

Jorgensen will have to bide his time and wait patiently for his opportunity in the Premier League and it appears right now his only chance is either an injury to Sanchez or for the Spaniard to go through a prolonged slump in form.

The shot stopper recently revealed that he decided to join Chelsea because of the project and his aspirations are to win titles this season.

Jorgensen’s next taste of action is likely to be the Conference League game against Greek side Panathinaikos on October 24th, but that could be in doubt after he was substituted in Denmark U21’s 2-0 win against Iceland U21s.

Journalist Kieran Gill has provided an update on the situation and reported that Jorgensen will be assessed once he returns to London.

He took to X.com and said:

“Filip Jorgensen was forced off injured tonight for Denmark’s U21s after a collision. Friend who works for a Danish publication spoke with manager afterwards and was told he substituted Chelsea’s goalkeeper as a precaution. Will be assessed once back in London but hopefully fine.”

Jorgensen was clearly signed with the future in mind, but the goalkeeping situation at Chelsea is complicated with Djordje Petrovic who impressed last season currently on loan at Strasbourg.

Whilst Jorgensen can safely assume he will still be at the club next season it appears likely that one of Petrovic or Sanchez will need to leave next summer.
